Being a Product Designer Still, I’m not a pro at Figma

Figma is one of the most fantastic tools you will find around yourself. Whether you are a designer or non-designer it is compatible for everyone almost. From designing to jamming, playing games, and building roadmaps. you can literally do wonders with this tool.

Almost every company is using Figma. Because of its high demand tools like Adobe XD, Photoshop, and Adobe illustrator are defamed.

Knowing the fact that the tool is super cool and easy to use then why I am not a pro at using it?

This is because of the numerous amount of plugins available in the Figma community of which I am unaware. Plugins are there to make your life easy right? then what is the problem? Am I a LOSER?

I might be the one, but still, the question remains the same. Everything is readily available right there on one platform still.

I personally like this quote, “Have no fear of perfection-you will never reach it”.

The problem is not that you are not good at using the particular tool. The problem is about not giving much time to the tool, experimenting with things with the tool, and much more.

Being a product designer half of my time goes into researching and understanding the user's needs and only a small proportion of my time I spend doing designing. Designing could become complex to you when you are doing easy tasks but in a very complex way.

Figma is an ultimate tool that can help you do a number of things in a snap of time. But, the magic of snap works only when you know the right way to do things. Now let's talk about the right way.

  1. Everything starts with cleanliness, which is also applicable to the Figma software as well. Having a clean and clear home page is extremely essential and most of us don't pay attention to it.
  2. Take a deeper dive into the software and start knowing all the functionality behind or in the software.
  3. Read about the documentation of such tools, which is the much-needed thing you should do as a designer/developer/anyone. Most of the time this documentation may tell you the secrets or magic existing in the software or tool.
  4. Now that you have a basic understanding of the tool, start learning about the tips and tricks for carrying out your work more efficiently and smoothly.
  5. Learn about plugins in Figma and widgets in Figjam(specifically talking about Figma here). Once you learn them or know how to use them, in no time your complex tasks will be done and updated here without any tension.

Everything is readily available on the internet but that stuff is of no use to you until you don't start researching on your own. Reading and experimenting are the two most important aspects of becoming a good designer. Whatever you learn you should immediately start implementing those things directly into your system this will help you in knowing the tool you are working on better.

Asking others around you!

Learning new things cannot be done by just sitting under the roof. Keeping yourself up to date is very important and for that, you need to know how others are doing a particular thing. Need to know their approach to doing tasks. Trust this that asking and doing things can make your work much easier and less time consuming than most of us lack otherwise.

Design techniques don't come in a book or somewhere. These shortcuts are created by people like you and me. This is why it’s literally important to start asking people about how they do things and approach the design techniques.

Getting Curious

Curiosity enables creativity. Creativity enables innovation. Curiosity is necessary for the innovation we aim to something

A design thinker is eager to learn more about specific situations and contexts. Ideally, he combines epistemic curiosity (knowledge-based: the trait to solve problems, or to learn about new things) with interpersonal curiosity (the interest in new people). Through our inner monologue, we make degrading comments to ourselves every day. “I’m not good at anything” is one of those self-inflicted insults and it’s simply false.

Curiosity enables you to-

  1. Be able to know new people
  2. Makes your design more exciting.
  3. Will see new possibilities and approaches.
  4. You will become more observant.
  5. Your mind will remain in an active state.
  6. You learn more and procrastinate less.

So stop saying that I am not a pro at Figma…

Everything takes time, learning too. Perfection and learning new things are important things all we need to do is experiment and practice. Once you clear this stage half of your stress gets away in a snap.

That negative self-talk makes us feel inferior and convinces us we aren’t talented. Overcoming those thoughts is the first step to figuring out what we are good at and what we have to offer to the world.

By clearing your mind and eliminating the negativity, you can start to view yourself in a more positive and constructive light. Then you can focus on gathering evidence to help you define your talents

So be POSITIVE and learn new things…
